Hair hygiene products were the first to be created, composed of botanical extracts from species such as soapwort, soapwort, ivy, or agave that shared detergent, emulsifying, and solubilizing properties. The main characteristic of soaps and shampoos is that they are composed of a hydrophilic part (which binds to water) and a hydrophobic part (which repels water), making them surfactants that allow them to solubilize fatty substances in water (think of dish soap). As we will see, there are several types of surfactants, which can modify the aggressiveness and characteristics of the shampoo.
